What to Eat When You Are Bloated

There is really something worse about being bloated. Everyone wants to avoid feeling bloated. Bloating is usually as a result of buildup of gas in the abdomen. It is usually caused by digestion or swallowed air. It can also result from overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestines which ferments the food creating gas that causes bloating. Bloating is uncomfortable and unattractive.

Fortunately, there are foods that can really help when you are feeling bloated. They include:

Celery and fennel

These are crunchy veggies that act as diuretics. They help to flush out the excess gas you are retaining. In addition, they also help with clearing water retention which is as much uncomfortable as bloating. There are different ways in which you can prepare the celery and funnel to help clear your bloating.


Asparagus is a long and lean vegetable with certain compounds that act like probiotics. These are healthy bacteria that you need. The probiotics help with digestion and come in handy in getting rid of bloating. You can prepare them by adding some lemon juice to make the veggies tastier.


Ginger is an anti-inflammatory food with anti-spasmodic qualities. In addition, it has debloating properties. There are different ways of adding ginger into your meal plans like grating into your favorite marinade or adding it to your lemon water.

Peppermint, ginger or chamomile tea

Teas are have great anti-bloating effects. The most common teas with these properties are the peppermint, chamomile, and ginger teas. They pass through the stomach and relieve gas. You can add some lemon or ginger to your tea just to add some more nutritional benefits.


Whole-fat and low-fat yogurt are both great for relieving bloating. Yogurt gives you a dose of beneficial bacteria which help to ease the process of digestion. With your digestion made efficient, you are unlikely to have gas issues. If you don’t like plain yogurt, then you can get creative and add canned pumpkin or natural peanut butter. It will make the yogurt a little bit more enticing.


Papaya has an enzyme called papain. This enzyme aids in digestion and the breakdown of proteins. You can it by itself or add it to meals like grilled chicken


Pineapples contains nutrients that shouldn’t be restricted only to pina coladas. The tropical fruit contains bromelain. This is a digestion-promoting enzyme. You can prepare your pineapples in a different way by tossing some freshly sliced pineapple rings on a hot grill to dress up a chicken breast. You can also eat them as a delicious and healthy dessert. The idea is to get some pineapples into your body for all the health benefits you stand to enjoy.


Cucumbers are excellent vegetables to clear a bloated stomach. They are full of nutrients and don’t contain FODMAPs that cause some vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage to have bloating effects in some people.

Bloating is uncomfortable for anyone. Fortunately, these foods will help you clear your discomfort and get you in the right track.
